Thanksgiving through a Cooperative Learning strategy

This past week I've been sooo busy as we had to prepare a presentation for one of our Master's lesson. We were asked to prepare a lesson based on cooperative learning and, as Thanksgiving was nearby, we decided to chose this well known festivity as the main topic.
As for the cooperative technique, we chose the Think-Pair-Share technique, also known as 1-2-4-All, which consists in working individually, then in pairs and, finally in groups. This technique looks for group work and is perfect to encourage critical thinking and social skills.
For the first activity, our classmates were asked to read a brief text about the origins of Thanksgiving and there were proposed three questions (you can find them below on the attached worksheet).
These questions were put in common in a second activity which was in pairs. After that, they had to boost their texts by using some new collocations. This was an idea to include some of the lexical approach studied in class.
Finally in small groups they had to create a short poem thanking someone. It was so nice and they looked excited when reading their creations. As a final task, we voted for the funniest, the most original and the tenderest.
In case you missed, this is the worksheet we used for the students. It was a success!
